Shin-Tokyo Dental Technician College Hosts Oral Design Workshop

Shin-Tokyo Dental Technician College hosted a 3-day workshop on Oral Design for industry professionals from June 5 to 7, in addition to the school’s regular classes.

The name of the workshop was “Willi Geller Workshop: Advanced Posterior Hands-on Course with Creation ZI-CT.”

The instructor is Mr. Willi Geller, the 74-year old dental technician who created the history of ceramic restoration and still remains active around the world. Dental technicians and dentists active on the front lines of the dental restoration industry have been influenced by Mr. Geller to some extent.

Sixty-three dental technicians took time out of their busy schedule to come to Shin-Tokyo Dental Technician College to take one step closer to making the “real teeth” that Mr. Geller creates. Participants came from all across Japan to take part in the workshop, and some came from other countries, such as Italy, together with interpreters.

During 2-days of half-day lectures, participants watched and observed Mr. Geller’s manufacturing techniques and made molars. This was an invaluable workshop. The material used in the production of the molars is zirconium dioxide and porcelain, a relatively new 3rd generation material, which people can sense the differences in coloring and feel.

The workshop was held in the practical training unit usually used by the dental hygienist students. The teeth made by Mr. Geller were fitted onto the teeth of a woman acting as a patient by a dentist. The participants were also able to see the patient’s smile as well.

Since Shin-Tokyo Dental Technician College moved into its new building, the opportunities for the school to serve as host for symposiums, study sessions, and workshops have grown. Everyone at the school is delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the dental industry. In the future, the school with deepen its relationship of trust with the industry in its capacity as a professional training college working closely together with the dental industry.
