The Gateway to Tomorrow: Students Make a Difference While Gaining Real-World Theatrical Experience

The student-led production of The Gateway to Tomorrow, a musical promoting bone marrow transplant and leukemia awareness in Japan, was held in Tokyo and Osaka in September and October 2013. This year’s performances marked the 20th anniversary of the inaugural performance of the Gateway to Tomorrow.

The Gateway to Tomorrow was conceived, written, produced, and performed by students from a number of Jikei Group schools across the country. Over the years, many corporations and organizations have become involved in the project, making the musical an important part of the cooperative education with industry program at the Jikei Group.

The Gateway to Tomorrow’s inaugural performance was held on February 1, 1994 at the Mielparque Hall in Osaka, and the musical has been staged 129 times over the past 20 years with performances in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Osaka. This year performances were held in Tokyo and Osaka.
