Symphony Hall Relaunched under Jikei Management

The Jikei Group of Colleges formally took over management of the Symphony Hall from Asahi Broadcasting Corporation in January 2014. The Symphony Hall first opened its doors in 1982 as Japan’s first classical music hall and boasts a history of over 30 years. Herbert von Karajan conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Symphony Hall in 1984 and declared the hall’s acoustics to be the best in the world. His love for the hall was shared by other famous conductors such as Leonard Bernstein and Claudio Abbado. The new managers for the symphony hall with its illustrious history are Mr. Toyonori Tanaka, President and Executive Director; and Mr. Hiroshi Kita, General Manager and Musical Director.

The music magazine Sinfonia was sent out in advance in July 2013 to approximately 20,000 subscribers with a completely new design with the title “Sinfonia Issue O.” Publication has changed from every month to every two months, and the number of pages and the amount of content has increased significantly. The circulation has also increased 250% to approximately 100,000. “Sinfonia Issue 1” was published on December 20, 2013. With the management changeover, part of the hall has been renovated, a cafe and shop were added to the 2nd floor, and the Symphony Hall Ticket Center opened on January 6. Subscribers can read about these changes and more in “Sinfonia Issue 1.” Concertgoers can purchase tickets online or by telephone using a credit card or PiTaPa.

The Symphony Hall will produce a variety of concert programs for both new and old Symphony Hall fans as well as enjoyable services. Under the capable management of the Jikei Group, the Symphony Hall will attract even more subscribers and music fans.
