Keimyung University Awards Chairperson Ukifune Honorary Doctorate

Keimyung University awarded Jikei Group of Colleges Chairperson Kunihiko Ukifune an Honorary Doctorate in Education in a grand ceremony held on its campus in Daegu, South Korea on January 21, 2013. The honorary doctorate was granted in recognition of Chairperson Ukifune’s outstanding contributions to postsecondary professional education exchange between Japan and South Korea over many years.

The ceremony was held at Adams Chapel, the university’s church and oldest building, and was attended by 600 Keimyung University faculty members and students as well as business and community leaders. A delegation of 22 representatives from the Jikei Group also attended the conferment ceremony.

In his speech accepting the award, Chairperson Ukifune stated that: “The joy of seeing students grow and become active members of society is one reserved for educators, and cannot be experienced by people in other professions. I think this is our greatest reward. And this is why we need to strive constantly to improve the education we deliver to our students. To achieve this goal, I believe that each of us as educators needs to continue to grow as well.”

Chairperson Ukifune has also received honorary doctorates from the University of West Florida and Columbia College Chicago.
