To begin, we would like to express our sincere condolences to all of those who fell victim to the Kumamoto Earthquake. Tokyo College of Biotechnology Helps Miyake Island Distillery Restart Operations

Miyake Island is an island located approximately 180 kilometers south of Tokyo and administered by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The entire island was evacuated following the eruption of Mt. Oyama on July 14, 2000, but residents were finally permitted to return beginning in February of 2005.   Shochu production at the Miyake Island Shochu Distillery was restarted as part of the recovery efforts on the island. Hospital of Miracles

Sendai Communication Arts College and Sendai College of Medical Health staged performances of the musical Hospital of Miracles on October 9 and 10 at the Rururu Hall in the Sendai City Taihaku Ward Cultural Center. During the two days, 1,081 people came to see the musical, which both raises awareness for bone marrow transplants and supports recovery efforts for the Great East Japan Earthquake.   The Jikei Group of Colleges first began raising awareness for bone marrow transplants with the musical Gateway to Tomorrow in 1994, staged then by the Osaka School of Music. Thomas Schaaf is a former player for the German Bundesliga football team Werder Bremen and coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, the team which he now manages. He is also currently an International Educational Advisor for the Jikei Group of Colleges. Mr. Schaaf visited the Tokyo College of Sports and Recreation on November 11 and delivered special lectures for the students of the Sports Trainer Department and the Sports Business Department. Osaka College of Medical Welfare Students Man Aid Stations for 2015 Biwako Takashima Kuri Marathon

The Takashima City Board of Education in Shiga Prefecture asked Osaka College of Medical and Welfare for volunteers for the aid stations for the 2015 Biwako Takashima Kuri Marathon held on October 18. A total of 12 students from the Medical Trainer Club took part as staff members for the race, which was sponsored by the Takashima City Board of Education. Composer Kiyoshi Nobutoki’s Kaido Tosei Performed for First Time in 75 Years at the Symphony Hall

The Symphony Hall in Osaka City Kita Ward held performances of the 1940 cantata Kaido Tosei by the Osaka-born composer and former Tokyo University of the Arts professor Kiyoshi Nobutoki and poet Hakushu Kitahara on November 20 and 22. The complete work was performed for the event Keido Tosei Cantata—70th Anniversary of the End of World War II and the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Kiyoshi Nobutoki, sponsored by the Sankei Shimbun newspaper in cooperation with the Symphony Hall with the support of the Jikei Group of Colleges. 2015 Jikei English Speech Contest

The Preliminary round in the 2015 Jikei English Speech Contest has begun, with this year marking the 6th year of the contest. Fifty-three competitors from 50 schools across the country have signed up, the largest number of participants so far.   The theme for this year’s contest is "Selling Yourself in English." The entrants have been tasked with envisioning an interview overseas for a job related to their field of study. Sports and Youth Bureau Director-General Visits the Jikei Group in Hokkaido

Ryuichiro Shirama—Sports and Youth Bureau Director-General at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology—visited Hokkaido College of High Technology and Hokkaido High-Technology Athletics Club in the afternoon of September 12. Mr. Shirama toured the school and facilities and discussed education for sports professionals at professional training colleges as well as curricula used in sports-related departments. Duce Mix Kitchen Grand Opening

Duce Mix, a Jikei Group corporation, will open the Duce Mix Kitchen on October 11 in Fukushima Ward in Osaka City. The Duce Mix Kitchen will be a bakery, bistro, and cafe which will take over the renovated building that previously housed the Osaka College of Culinary Arts. Japan Society for Dental Technology Education Workshop

Shin Tokyo Dental Technician College hosted the 11th Full-Time Faculty Seminar during the 4-day period from August 18 to 21. The seminar was organized by the Japan Association of Dental Technicians, comprised of member dental technical training schools from across Japan. The seminar was attended by 31 full-time faculty members from dental technician schools stretching across Japan, from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
